Got itchy bug bites? You are just minutes away from an easy DIY bug bite relief remedy! It’s so easy to make and even kids can use it!
My girls just came back home from a delightful trip during which they spent some time outdoors after dusk.
Which meant for the first time in their lives, they experienced mosquito bites (we don’t really deal with them too much at home for some lucky reason).
Mosquito bites itch. They itch like crazy! And it’s not just mosquito bites that itch! Plenty of other bug bites cause itching as well.
Thankfully, there is an incredibly easy remedy that you can whip up in under 5 minutes!
Just make a roller bottle of this remedy and you are set for bug bites anytime!
Carry it with you when you are camping, keep it in the medicine cabinet for at home, store it in your purse for out and about.
Lavender is the key ingredient when it comes to anti-itch bug relief!
Lavender Essential Oil
Popularly known for its calming and relaxing properties, lavender can also help relief itching as well! This is due to its anti-inflammatory properties.
Essential Oil Safety
You can read all about how to use essential oils safely in another post, but the short version is that you need to use different ratios of essential oil depending on age and use.
For adults, we use 3 drops of essential oil as this is a short term, acute remedy
For children, it is recommended to use just 1 drop of essential oil for this remedy so that it stays within the safe essential oil ratio.
Generally speaking, it’s not wise to use essential oils on children under 1.
Carrier oil refers to the oil that will be diluting the essential oils in a recipe so that you aren’t using them full strength.
You can use any liquid oil as a carrier oil for this anti-itch remedy.
I’ve used jojoba oil as it was what I had at the time but you could use fractionated coconut oil, grapeseed oil, even olive oil in a pinch (although it does have a more olive smell then).
DIY Bug Bite Relief Roll-On
Pour both ingredients into a roller bottle.
Attach roller bottle top and cap. Shake to mix well.
Simply roll over any itchy bug bites. So easy, even kids can do it themselves!
