Looking for a delicious, indulgent, and yet healthy treat? These sunbutter banana popsicles are a scrumptious frozen treat and they are even safe for those with nut allergies!

If you know anyone with a nut allergy then you are likely already familiar with the popular peanut butter alternative: sunbutter!

Homemade Sunbutter

What is Sunbutter?
Sunbutter is a nut free “butter” made from sunflower seeds. Sure we should technically call it sunflower butter but that’s a mouthful and we’d rather save our mouths for eating!

We discovered sunbutter because one of my kids is allergic to nuts. We also quickly learned that making homemade sunbutter is oh so much cheaper!

You need just 4 ingredients to make these delicious popsicles!
Milk, banana, sunbutter, and maple syrup!

Milk
We use organic whole milk but you can use any type of milk! It can be dairy or non-dairy.

Banana
Banana is a classic combo for peanut butter (Hello Elvis) but it’s not surprise that it pairs well with sunbutter too! Banana also helps make these popsicles nice and creamy!

Sunbutter
We have to add sunbutter because how could we have sunbutter banana popsicles without the key ingredient! Sunbutter is high in protein, healthy fats, vitamin E, and magnesium so it’s a great healthy ingredient!

Maple Syrup
Make sure to use the real deal when it comes to maple syrup otherwise you are just adding in sugar and who knows what! Alternatively you can use honey or even stevia.

I’ve included a range in the maple syrup amount because not everyone loves their popsicles as sweet. Opt for the 1 tablespoons if you love sweetness, choose 1/2 tbs if you prefer it on the lighter side, or choose some amount in between!

Sunbutter Popsicles with Drizzle

Okay, maybe a few more ingredients are needed if you want to chocolate drizzle!

Chocolate Drizzle
The drizzle is optional (although it’s obviously delicious!) To make the chocolate drizzle just mix 1 tbs cocoa powder, with 1 tbs maple syrup, and then add in 2 tbs of melted coconut oil. Mix well and then drizzle on to already frozen popsicles. It should firm up but if there is too much maple syrup it make not.

Instructions

Add all ingredients to blender and whirl away. This works best with a high powered blender but a regular blender should do the job as well.

Once your mixture is a nice consistency, pour into popsicle molds and place into the freezer for a few hours. (makes about 7 popsicles)

I love these stainless steel molds but they can be a bit pricey, in which case this set is a more affordable option that is BPA free.
