I’ve been meaning to whip up a natural sunburn relief cream for ages now but living in the Pacific Northwest, I thankfully do not have much opportunity to get sunburned.

Until this week… It wasn’t too hot but the sun was out and we were out for 2 hours in direct sun. That was all it took for me to get a nice little sunburn.

Once upon a time, I had a decent sun tolerance built up (I was a born and bred California girl) but living in the Pacific Northwest has turned my skin to a very pale shade of white that screams in horror when it sees the sun for longer than an hour.

Ok, it’s not as bad as all that but for the first few weeks of summer, my skin has to slowly get used to the sun again or I will get burnt.

So, my misfortune this week is your gain as I created this natural sunburn relief cream!

Of course, the best case scenario would be to make sure you never get sunburned in the first place. It’s always best to limit time in the sun, eat healthy foods that will help your skin handle the sun longer, and of course wear a natural sunscreen if you’ll be out for longer periods.

But if you do get sunburned then it’s good to know that relief is just a seconds away.

It takes literally seconds to make and only four ingredients!

What Ingredients are in this Sunburn Relief Cream?

Coconut Oil
Coconut oil is a great moisturizer thanks to all it’s saturated fats. It also solidifies at any temp cooler than 76 degrees which means it solidifies just enough be make a fluffy light cream that melts into your skin instantly.

Aloe Vera
Aloe vera is at the classic ingredient for soothing sunburns and for good reason! It’s a perfect healing moisturizer. Just make sure to get the real aloe vera, the clear stuff… none of that dyed green stuff!

Lavender Essential Oil
Lavender essential oil  is anti-inflammatory and will help reduce the redness of the sunburn and reduces the pain as well.

Peppermint Essential Oil
Peppermint essential oil is great for cooling down the skin but it also helps mellow out any sunburn pain you might be suffering.

Spend too long in the sun and now you have a lovely sunburn? This natural sunburn relief cream takes just seconds to make! #sunburn #sunburnrelief #aloe #summer #naturalremedies

Natural Sunburn Relief Cream

1/4 cup coconut oil – melted
1/8 cup aloe vera gel
30 drops lavender essential oil
15 drops peppermint essential oil

Directions:
Mix all ingredients together (I like to put it all into an 8oz mason jar, place the lid on and shake well).
Allow to cool down to room temp. (You can do this naturally but placing on the counter for a few hours or pop it in the fridge for a few minutes. If you use the fridge, you’ll want to watch carefully. If it hards too much it won’t whip up nicely and you’ll need to soften it again.)
Once room temp, use a hand mixer to whip it up. (my hand mixer has a single whisk attachment which fits perfectly in my 8oz mason jar!)
Whip till light and fluffy.
Transfer to a pump bottle or keep in the mason jar.

To Use:
Apply on sunburn as needed.
