What is Activated Charcoal?

Activated charcoal isn’t the same stuff as you’d find in your barbecue. No, thankfully it’s a bit different than that. Activated charcoal has been oxidized which causes the surface of the charcoal to become porous.

Thanks to the porous properties, activated charcoal attracts metals, chemicals, and toxins to itself. Activated charcoal adsorbs (AD-sorbs, not absorbs there’s a slight difference) these toxins and then they are flushed away with the charcoal.

Where to Get Activated Charcoal

You can find activated charcoal in most supermarkets in the supplement section. It’s a common poisoning remedy (even hospitals use it!).

Of course, you can find it online as well (probably for a better price because that’s the Amazon world we live in now).

You can buy it in capsule form which is great for keeping your activated charcoal adventures as mess free as possible and you can get capsules in a smaller quantity than if you by by the pound.
