Have you heard of activated charcoal? Odds are you have, it is one of the trending ingredients it seems. I see it everywhere, it’s on skincare shelves, it’s in the beverage aisle, even my local ice cream shop has a charcoal ice cream!
There are so many ways to use activated charcoal… and I’m sharing 45 ways to use activated charcoal today! Activated charcoal is taking the world by storm and for good reasons!
What is Activated Charcoal?
Activated charcoal isn’t the same stuff as you’d find in your barbecue. No, thankfully it’s a bit different than that. Activated charcoal has been oxidized which causes the surface of the charcoal to become porous.
Thanks to the porous properties, activated charcoal attracts metals, chemicals, and toxins to itself. Activated charcoal adsorbs (AD-sorbs, not absorbs there’s a slight difference) these toxins and then they are flushed away with the charcoal.
Where to Get Activated Charcoal
You can find activated charcoal in most supermarkets in the supplement section. It’s a common poisoning remedy (even hospitals use it!).
Of course, you can find it online as well (probably for a better price because that’s the Amazon world we live in now). You can buy it in capsule form which is great for keeping your activated charcoal adventures as mess free as possible and you can get capsules in a smaller quantity than if you by by the pound.
But if you are going to #ActivatedCharcoalAllTheThings than I’d recommend just going all out and buying activated charcoal powder in the bag.

How To Use Activated Charcoal in Food & Drinks
While activated charcoal is definitely a fun food/drink ingredients, I don’t recommend making it a common thing. Activated charcoal can bind some nutrients so I don’t recommend taking it for more than a few days. If you are on prescription medicine, you’ll likely want to skip the charcoal as it can interfere with the medication.
