Discovering a Family Rhythm

The following is a guest post by Michelle Van Doren of Seeking Joyful Simplicity. Exhausted, overwhelmed, frustrated, and cranky. This wasn’t how I imagined parenting to be. What was wrong with me, and why couldn’t I just get it together? I suspect chaos, overwhelm, and a sense of failure are a normal part of running a household and parenting young children. As moms, we are expected to do it all and do it well. Our days can pass in a blur as we struggle to manage our home, attend to the never-ending needs of our children, and find the...

Healthy Spaghetti O’s

For many people, their childhood lunches were full of PB&J, Chicken Soup with Stars, and Spaghetti-O’s. I know mine was! As I grew older, I moved on from Spaghetti O’s, I mean they weren’t that exciting right? But then childhood catches up with you…or rather you want your children to experience parts of your childhood that you remember, even if that means the full of not real ingredients in a BPA can because healthy spaghetti o’s those cans are not! Oh yeah… hmmm now what was I to do? I wanted to surprise my kids and let them in on...

Apple Pie Popcorn

Are you a fan of popcorn? I am! Seriously, I keep popcorn kernels in what most people would deem their sugar canister. Popcorn is my favorite meal… umm I mean snack! I’ll eat it with butter and salt, I’ll eat cheese popcorn, caramel corn, I’ll eat it with balsamic vinegar, and I’ll eat it plain. Nursing Support Tea

Over the last 5 years or so, I’ve become addicted to using herbal teas as remedies. I use it for pregnancy and childbirth, I use it for coughs and congestion, I even have one that’s a great immunity booster. So naturally, I’d decide to make a nursing support tea as well. I first came across teas to help nursing mamas when I was struggling to make enough milk for my third baby. I was desperately trying everything under the sun to help increase my milk supply. In that desperation, I bought a box of pre-bagged nursing tea. In my...

Apple Pie Smoothie

I’ve been wanting to try this apple pie smoothie for some time now but it wasn’t until this week that I took the plunge. The weather shifted to hinting of fall and suddenly I was ready for all things autumn! The great thing about this smoothie is that while it has obvious “dreaming of fall” flavor it is still a nice cool drink on a warm “still summer” day. So even if you are in the hotter regions and fall seems a long ways away, you can whip up this smoothie and imagine it’s a crisp fall day. Much...

Homeschool Curriculum 2016-2017

Our family recently started our sixth year of homeschooling! It’s amazing to me that I’m getting to be more in the seasoned homeschooler category and out of the newbie homeschooler category. Didn’t we just start this journey? One important part of getting everything ready for homeschooling is choosing the curriculum. Obviously you need to know what books you will be using when teaching. This year, we are changed a few things from last year’s curriculum. We realized last year that some of the curriculum was no longer working for what our kids need and thus, we did an overhaul. This...
